Terms and Conditions

Last updated: April 2026.

These are the terms you agree to when you hire Dulwich Painting Co to do painting and decorating work for you. They are standard sole-trader trading terms for domestic painting work in England.

  1. About me. Dulwich Painting Co is a sole-trader business owned and operated by Imer, based in East Dulwich, SE22. I am not VAT-registered, so all prices quoted are final. Phone or WhatsApp on 07933 509672. Email hello@dulwichpainting.co.uk.

Quotes. Quotes are fixed prices based on your information and any site visit. Quotes are valid for 30 days. They include labour, paint, sundries and dust sheets unless I have noted exclusions in writing. If, once work starts, I discover something that materially changes the scope (significant damp, plaster damage, hidden asbestos), I will stop, show you, and agree any change in cost in writing before carrying on.

Booking. To book a job, you confirm the quote and an agreed start date in writing (email or WhatsApp is fine). I may ask for a small deposit on larger jobs (over 3000 pounds) to secure the start date. This is offset against the final invoice.

Doing the work. I will arrive on the agreed start date and aim to finish by the agreed end date. I will let you know as soon as possible if anything affects this. I work tidy every day, protect your home and belongings, and leave the site clean at the end of each day. The final walk-through happens together on the last day. Anything you are not happy with gets fixed before I consider the job done.

Payment. I invoice on completion of the work. Payment is due within 7 days of invoice. For larger jobs over 5000 pounds I may invoice in stages. Payment by bank transfer (BACS). Card and cheque by prior arrangement. Late payment may incur interest at the Bank of England base rate plus 8 percent under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act, after 30 days.

Guarantee. I offer a 1-year written workmanship guarantee on all work I complete. If a defect appears within 12 months of completion that is caused by my workmanship (paint peeling, filler failing, caulk splitting), I will come back and fix it at no cost. The guarantee does not cover damage caused by water ingress or damp from elsewhere, normal wear and tear, issues caused by movement of the building, work done by other trades, paint colour fade over time, or materials supplied by you.

Materials. Unless agreed otherwise, I supply paint and sundries and they are included in the quote. You can supply your own paint, in which case I will need the brand, colour and quantity clearly agreed in writing before work starts. I cannot guarantee coverage on paints I have not chosen. Unused paint from your job is left with you at the end.

Insurance. I hold 1 million pounds public liability insurance. Certificate available on request before the job starts.

Cancellation. You can cancel before work has started by giving written notice. Any deposit paid is refunded in full, less any paint already ordered specifically for the job. If you cancel after work has started, you pay for the work done to date at the quoted rate. I may cancel if unforeseen circumstances prevent me from starting or completing the job. In that case any deposit is refunded in full.

Photos. I sometimes take before-and-after photos of work for the website and social media. I always ask your permission before using any photos that identify your property, and I never share your address.

Disputes. If you are not happy with anything, tell me. Most issues can be resolved with a conversation and a site visit. If we cannot resolve it between us, disputes are governed by English law and heard in the courts of England and Wales.
