Painter & Decorator in Camberwell (SE5)
Camberwell has a proper mix of Victorian terraces and Edwardian houses, many of which haven’t had professional decoration done in years. The roads around Camberwell Grove, Denmark Hill, and Grove Lane have some of the finest period houses in South London. I cover all of SE5.
Why Camberwell clients book me
- Know period property inside out — breathable paints, lime plaster, original cornice, all the stuff that matters on a Grove Lane house
- Careful with listed buildings — check the paperwork before we commit to anything exterior
- Work sympathetically with whatever era your house is from (an 1780s Georgian cottage and a 1980s new-build need very different approaches)
- Practical, not precious — a lot of Camberwell homes are lived in hard, and the finish needs to hold up

A typical Camberwell job
Last summer, a Grade II listed Georgian terrace on Camberwell Grove. Owner had been there 30 years, the house hadn't been properly decorated in 15. Beautiful original panelling, lime-plastered walls, 12-foot ceilings in the drawing room.
We did the drawing room, dining room and hallway. F&B Dead Flat on the lime walls (breathable, essential), Mylands Hanover Square 154 on the panelling, Mylands oil-based eggshell on the woodwork. The cornice alone took two days because of the detail.
Job came in on time, on quote, and the cornice looks like it did in 1840.
Coverage
All of SE5. Particularly Camberwell Grove, Grove Lane, Denmark Hill, Champion Hill, Lyndhurst Way, and the Camberwell New Road direction.

About Painting And Decorating In Camberwell
-
Yes. Internally we can just crack on. Externally we'll check whether any Listed Building Consent is needed for the specific work first.
-
Breathable — Farrow & Ball Dead Flat, Earthborn Claypaint, or Little Greene Intelligent Matt. Modern vinyl emulsion will trap moisture and cause problems in time.
-
Yes, I can paint it carefully without building up the profile further. If you want it stripped back to original, that's a specialist conservation job and I can recommend someone who does it well.

Yes, all of SE5
-
Yes, carefully. Panelling is one of the nicest things to paint in a period home — I'll hand-paint with a proper brush, in the right eggshell, and leave the detail visible.
-
Yes — like-for-like colour is usually fine without consent. Changing colour externally on a listed building usually needs consent. I'll check with you before we commit.

Usually within 24 hours. Written down, broken out by room, no surprises at the end.
3. Optional, I'll pop round.
If it's a bigger job or there's anything unusual, I'll come and see it in person before we commit. No charge, no sales pitch.
